If you encounter a problem with LaunchPadª crashing, chances are it is a memory problem. In order to keep LaunchPad as unobtrusive as possible, its memory partition has been kept small. LaunchPad has been designed to operate properly with a memory partition as small as 45K.
However, depending upon the extensions you have installed (some of which steal memory from LaunchPad's partition), it is possible that you will need to use a larger partition--particularly if you drop many items onto LaunchPad at one time.
If you encounter such a problem, the simple solution is to slightly increase the size of LaunchPad's partition.

Standard File Utilities:
If you are using a standard file navigation utility, like SuperBoomerangª or Directory Assistance II, you may find that the LaunchPad dialog is disturbed in various ways. These problems can be avoided by disabling the utility within LaunchPad.
Some utilities provide a direct method to disable it for any given application (like DA II), while others (like SB) can be disabled by decreasing the size of LaunchPad's partition. (These utilities are among those that steal memory from the LaunchPad's partition. When memory is sufficiently low, they simply disable themselves.)
Jon Gotow's shareware utility, Default Folder, should work fine with LaunchPad. James Walker's freeware utilities, Dialog View and Open Wide should also work fine with LaunchPad.
